Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S3 & Galaxy S7 Have Similar Specs
We’ve seen a number of different leaks of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 in recent weeks, and when the new tablet was compared with the Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphone it appears the two devices share a number of similarities. We’ve seen rumors and leaks showing the new Galaxy Tab S3 will come with the Samsung Exynos 7420 chipset, which powered the 2015 Samsung Galaxy S6 family of devices. Most recently, we’ve seen that the Galaxy Tab S3 will ship with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, including 4 GB of system RAM. However, taking a deeper look under the specification shows that the new benchmarked Galaxy Tab S3 offers similar underlying performance to the Galaxy S7 smartphone, which means that the new tablet likely includes high performance memory components. If that’s the case it could ship with UFS 2.0 storage and LPDDR4 RAM, as evidenced by some of the benchmarks.
For example, the Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android 7.0 Nougat shows a creditable memory bandwidth of 17.8 GB/s. The benchmarked Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 shows a small improvement in memory bandwidth at 18.0 GB/s – twice the bandwidth of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (shown above). Looking through the benchmark results, the Galaxy Tab S3 also shows approximately twice the read / write speeds, too; these could significantly improve how quickly the device performs when switching between everyday applications as well as when gaming.
The Galaxy Tab S3 also appears to use a similar camera on the back as compared with the Samsung Galaxy S7, but it has slightly more pixels as it shows a resolution of 12.9 MP. Although tablets are not generally known for their photography or video prowess, should the Galaxy Tab S3 contain a similar camera assembly to the Galaxy S7 smartphone, and have similar high performance processing and memory access abilities, it would seem likely that Samsung will have given the Galaxy Tab S3 the ability to record at 4K resolution. It remains to be seen if Samsung have given the Galaxy Tab S3 the same lens assembly as the smartphones; tablets are less often used as cameras compared with smartphones because they are significantly larger to hold up. It’s still unclear when the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will be revealed, or if Samsung are considering selling different variants based around the two generations of chipset (as the Samsung Exynos 7420 dates back from 2015 whereas the Qualcomm Snapdragon is a 2016 chipset).
