ASUS ZenFone AR Coming to Canada in July


The ASUS ZenFone AR is going to be launching in the US in July, with the Verizon variant coming in the fall. And now, according to ASUS’ Canada unit, the ZenFone AR should also be arriving in Canada in July. This isn’t set in stone, and could change (it likely will) before it actually launches. ASUS has not confirmed the pricing of the ZenFone AR yet, at least in Canada, but the company’s CEO, Jerry Shen had stated that they won’t charge more than a Galaxy S8, which costs around $1150 in Canada.
ASUS made quite a bit of noise at CES when they announced the ZenFone AR, and for good reason. The ZenFone AR was the first phone in a few areas. One of them being the fact that it’s the first smartphone to support both Daydream and Tango. Google’s VR and AR platforms. It was also the first to sport 8GB of RAM under the hood, although the more popular variant will have 6GB of RAM for the user. Other specs include a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of internal storage along with a micro SD card slot. There’s also a 3300mAh battery inside to keep the ZenFone AR running all day long.
Now the back of the ZenFone AR sports three cameras. And this is due to the fact that Tango needs multiple cameras. There are two cameras for Tango, one measures depth, the other does motion. Then there is a higher-resolution camera for taking photos. This is a 23-megapixel sensor with OIS, phase detection autofocus and 3x zoom. Making for a great camera, at least on paper. The ZenFone AR is also one of the very few smartphones to support Google’s Daydream. So if you pick up the Daydream View, you’ll be able to watch videos in 360-degrees, as well as playing games in virtual reality.
ASUS has not mentioned where the ZenFone AR will launch in Canada, but it’ll likely be launching at all of the usual carriers and retailers. Again pricing is not announced yet, but don’t expect it to be a super cheap smartphone, given all the hardware that’s packed into this one.

As 2018 comes to a close, it’s time to look at some our favorite apps of the year. While not all of these are brand new, many of them popped up onto our radar for the first time in 2018, and are definitely worth the attention.
