Google launched the  Android Q beta 3  update at  Google I/O  last week, and with it, a brand new wallpaper. Now, thanks to an upload on  Reddit , you can download it in high-resolution for your device. You may have spotted the wallpaper on Google handsets during the company’s I/O presentations on Tuesday. This is the only new wallpaper available with the beta, similar to how Google only revealed one new wallpaper with the  Google Pixel 3a wallpaper , but you’ll find many more in the company’s dedicated  Google Wallpapers  app. Here’s what it looks like: That’s just a low-resolution taster though: if you want it at 2048 x 944 pixels, you can download it via our Mediafire folder below. Telegram update brings Android design refresh, archived chats

Image
The latest  Telegram  update is rolling out with some handsome upgrades. In a blog post published  late last week , Telegram announced it had redesigned the Android version of the app, and added a new chat archive feature. Archives works like this: swipe left on a conversation and it will move to your archived chats folder. If someone from that chat sends a message in the future, you’ll receive a notification and it will return to your chat list like any other conversation. Archived chats can also be hidden from their folder with another left swipe, and you can view hidden archives by dragging the screen down. You can also pin archived chats to keep them in a preferred order.  Telegram for Android has received a new chat menu too. Tap and hold on a chat to launch the menu where you’ll be able to select multiple chats to mute, archive, pin or delete them. Moving onto the redesign, the first thing you’ll notice here is the new button, which trades the previous very-clearly

Android Q desktop mode will support third-party launchers on both screens

Image
Android Q will have a desktop mode that will enable users to access Android via a desktop-style interface. This desktop interface can be customized depending on the launcher installed on the Android device. With third-party developers getting access to controlling desktop mode, the feature could have more legs than if Google alone controlled it. Even before  the first beta landed for Android Q , we already had heard rumors that Google would include  a native desktop mode  within the system. This new feature will enable users to connect their smartphone to a computer monitor and use it in a desktop-style interface. However, at  Google I/O 2019 , lead Android developers went in-depth for the first time on how the desktop mode will work during a small event entitled “Build Apps for Foldable, Multi-Display, and Large-Screen Devices” (spotted by  XDA Developers ). You can watch the talk in full  here . Although the talk is fairly technical and geared mostly towards deve

Supreme Court rules against Apple, allows an App Store antitrust case to proceed

Image
The  U.S. Supreme Court ruled  5-4 against Apple on Monday on a case involving whether or not a group of iPhone users will be allowed to bring an antitrust lawsuit against the company regarding its App Store practices. The iPhone owners allege that Apple’s 30% commission on App Store sales is passed along to users, representing an unlawful and unfair use of Apple’s monopoly power. Apple had moved to have the case dismissed, arguing that consumers were buying their apps from the developers — not from Apple. And it was the developers who were setting the prices. The court disagreed, saying that Apple contracts with the third-party developers to sell the 2 million apps that are live today on its App Store, keeping its 30% commission on every sale along the way. In addition, the court ruled in favor of the iPhone owners’ lawsuit proceeding for several other reasons. It said that any person injured by an antitrust violation may sue to recover damages, and that ruling in favor of Appl

[Update: It's a budget phone] HTC says it's making a second blockchain phone

Image
UPDATE: 2019/05/13 8:35AM PDT The HTC Exodus 1s will be a budget phone HTC is not dead. In fact, it's so not-dead that it's going to release a followup to the Exodus blockchain phone. That's the sort of niche project you'd only expect from companies that have money to burn, which HTC does not. Still, HTC must think there's a business here. HTC launched its first blockchain phone in  late 2018 , but the "Exodus" was really just a U12+ with a few hardware and software tweaks. The company billed this phone as ideal for crypto applications. You can securely store Bitcoin and other digital currencies on the device, and it supports decentralized app technology. HTC's Decentralized Chief Officer Phil Chen notes that sales of the Exodus have met expectations, but that could mean a lot of things. Chen says the company's next blockchain phone will launch in the second half of 2019. However, the Exodus was built on the U12 chassis, and HTC doe
