EA will be at E3, but don't expect a press conference

Image
After Sony pulled out entirely, EA is taking a very different approach to E3 2019, the company announced today.  Instead of a press keynote that shows gamers what they have to look forward to in a single sitting, EA will instead offer multiple live streams throughout the weekend leading up to the show. The live streams will go hand-in-hand with the annual EA Play event that will be held in Los Angeles, California from June 7 through June 9. Gamers in the area for E3 will be able to attend EA Play in-person, but will need to register through EA’s website when registration becomes available. While this sounds like a complete 180 for a company that just a few years ago had a keynote alongside the likes of Sony and Microsoft, EA has slowly been moving away from the traditional approach that other publishers take at the industry’s largest trade show.  The times they are a'changing According to a blog post on  EA’s website , the new format will offer “more gameplay and

Samsung's announcement of its new  Galaxy S10  phone wasn't the only new product information to drop. The tech retailer also announced its newest Galaxy smartwatch -  the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active. The newest Samsung wearable is available now for purchase, so we've rounded up the best prices and deals from several retailers below. Microsoft’s cheapest Surface Book 2 could get a quad-core CPU soon

Image
Microsoft looks set to refresh its cheapest  Surface Book 2  laptop in the coming weeks, according to retailer listings first spotted by  WinFuture . The biggest change is expected to be the laptop’s CPU, which appears to be getting a bump from a dual-core i5-7300U to a quad core i5-8350U. As well as adding two additional cores, the i5-8350U also modestly bumps the processor’s maximum boost clock speed up from 3.5GHz to 3.6GHz. Overall, that should result in a 50 percent rise in multi-core computing power. We saw the performance for ourselves during our  review of the Surface Pro 6 . WinFuture  notes that retailers have started listing the  new 13-inch refresh for $1499  (€1569). That’s the same as the recommended pricing on the current 256GB configuration, although it’s  discounted to $1,299 on Microsoft’s store right now . Otherwise, the specs of the new laptop appears to be the same: 8GB of RAM, a 3000 x 2000 resolution screen, two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, a single Type-C port,

Corsair’s K83 Wireless keyboard has a trackpad and half a gamepad built in

Image
Corsair’s latest keyboard, the K83 Wireless, is the manufacturer’s new attempt at a keyboard that you can use on your lap in a living room. In addition to a laptop-style 76-key keyboard, the K83 also includes a joystick, two shoulder buttons, and a trackpad that supports up to four-finger gestures in Windows 10. This joystick is the K83’s most unique aspect; it’s a pretty unusual inclusion on a keyboard. As well as allowing you to navigate menus, the joystick can also be set to emulate a mouse, which could be very useful in any game that would otherwise let you use it to control the game’s camera. In this mode, the two shoulder buttons stand in for the mouse’s left and right buttons, or you can click in the stick itself for a middle mouse click. This isn’t the first time Corsair has tried to make a keyboard work in the context of a living room couch, although it’s certainly the neatest. Previously, the company released the  Lapdog , a $119.99 hunk of plastic that you la

The PS4’s Remote Play update now lets you stream to iOS devices

Image
You can now use the PS4’s Remote Play functionality on iOS devices, thanks to version 6.50 of the console’s firmware, allowing you to remotely play your PS4 games from an iPhone or iPad (via  Engadget ). To access it, you’ll need to download the  Remote Play app  for your iOS device, and then pair it with your console. Compatible games can then be played over Wi-Fi using the on-screen buttons. Announced back in 2013, Remote Play originally let you stream games from a PS4 console  to the handheld PlayStation Vita , but later in 2016, Sony released  Remote Play apps for both Windows and Mac . Although Sony has yet to announce a broader Android version of the service, the existence of an  Android version of the app  that’s exclusive to  Sony Xperia phones  suggests there aren’t any technical barriers. Bringing the functionality to iOS is a huge expansion for Remote Play, although it’s a shame that you’re not officially able to pair a DualShock 4 controller with the app via Bluetoot

Nintendo just announced a Labo VR kit for the Switch

Nintendo’s getting into virtual reality, but not in the way you might expect. Today, the gaming giant announced the latest in its Labo line of DIY cardboard accessories, which turns the Nintendo Switch into a makeshift VR kit. As with previous Labo sets, there are a few options to choose from. The main VR kit costs $79.99 and includes six different cardboard kits to build, including VR goggles, a blaster, a camera, and an... elephant, as well as a screen holder and “safety cap.” For those looking to spend a bit less, there’s also a basic starter kit that includes just the goggles and blaster for $39.99. Additional accessories like the elephant can be purchased late in $20 sets. The kits will include Labo software, which features games, step-by-step instructions, and  the “garage” mode for building your own Labo creations . We wanted to design an experience that encourages both virtual and real-world interactions among players through passing around Toy-Con creations,” Doug Bow
